A chance to connect with the community is coming soon to the Sobering Center!
I recently sat down with Vilma, our Sobering Support Specialist, to discuss upcoming volunteer projects and her thoughtful vision of keeping past patients engaged with positive programming.
A huge piece of Vilma’s own recovery journey is using volunteering to get outside of herself. She has boundless ideas for the future volunteer programs the Sobering Center, and Reader, I wish you could see the way her eyes light up when she is planning opportunities for the volunteer program.
Vilma is using her years of expertise in coordinating volunteer programs to be able to create this exciting new space for our clients and her vision includes an avenue for them to stay engaged long after they begin their recovery journey. The goal is to provide a wide range of classes that include: yoga, meditation, and English and Spanish speaking support groups for former clients.
Now for the great news: we will be looking for volunteers! If you have a skill or educational topic you are passionate about we would love to hear from you. We ask that volunteers in recovery have at least two years of sobriety. We will be conducting interviews for volunteers in the coming months and if this sounds like something you or anyone you know are interested in, give Vilma a shout via email: firstname.lastname@example.org
Updates on this exciting new opportunity will be coming this spring so be sure to follow us on Instagram, @soberingcenteraustin to stay connected
