The Sobering Center is a nonprofit organization that serves as an alternative to jail and the emergency room for publicly intoxicated persons to sober up and when appropriate, be a bridge to recovery. Since its inception, the organization has safely sobered over 3, 500 individuals.

“I am thrilled for the opportunity to engage in problem solving and leadership around creating a public health rather than a punitive response for those suffering from behavioral health disorders,” says Sovine. “A chance to affect change at both a micro and a macro level is a dream for a social worker like myself!”

Sovine joins the Sobering Center from Austin Recovery, where she served as the Executive Director. She has over a decade of experience in nonprofit leadership and community engagement where she has dedicated her multi-faceted social work skills to causes such as substance use disorder treatment and prisoner re-entry.

Laura’s experience in non-profit management and commitment to our mission will help take the Sobering Center to greater heights,” says Sobering Center Board Chair Jana Ortega. “Her ideas and passion for expanding the Sobering Center’s impact in our community will be vital as our organization continues to evolve.”

Sovine’s official start date is June 17, 2020. Media inquiries may be directed to Executive Assistant, Amy Frank, at afrank@soberingcenter.org.
